Since my last update in Rwanda the ‘Eloy Project’ team and I have been in Uganda, Kenya and are currently in Israel. God continues to take us on a deeper journey with Him as we travel around the globe, film and build relationships with others.

Uganda- Reunited, Reminded

Almost a year later I was back in Uganda again. Once more God stirred my heart towards the orphan and reminded me of the reasons why the team and I do what we do.Returning to both the Ekisa Children’s Home and Family Spirit Children’s Centre was mixed emotions for me as I hoped many of the children would have better situations than before, taken in by relatives or new families.

I was pleased to find with some this was the case, but sadly with the fast majority they were still without a family.

Seeing little Dickson again and his two sisters was a special time. I find it hard to put in to words how these children’s hearts and faces move mine, they all dream to ‘be taken away’ to a place where they have a father and mother of their own.

As well as more filming we were able to help out practically in re-painting a brand new boys dormitory. We do our best to make the living conditions better for the children, and hopefully their stay will be shorter rather than longer.

By The Nile – A Fisherman’s Salvation.

One incredible highlight in South Uganda was when the team made friends with a Christian woman and her family by the source of the nile River, at Lake Victoria. Her husband, Abraham was a local fisherman who worked the lake all hours. His wife had been praying for her husband for years to follow Christ as he was brought up as a Muslim.

One night when leaving their home he grabbed my arm and told me he ‘wanted to be saved,’ and asked us to pray for him. With his wife translating for us we told him more, and he decided to follow Jesus right then and there. This beautiful privilege was made all the more fantastic taking place at the side of the lake under the brightest stars imaginable. I felt like I was in a bible story with no electricity for miles and a fisherman accepting Christ by the Lake of Victoria ( also the Source Of The Nile ). God really does know the times and places for man and knew just where he had to be and at what time. Overjoyed, the wife told me they will both begin reading the Bible together immediately.

Kenya- Helping Vulnerable Children In Africa’s Largest Slum

In Nairobi, Kenya we were blessed by the hospitality of Tom and Beatrice Jeny. Taking us in like family we were overwhelmed at their kindness, humour and joy.

Tom and Beatrice founded Saviour King Ministries – There they run a children’s village for unparented children, two schools in the middle of African’s largest slum as well as pastoring a church and sunday school.

Kibera Slum is a very dangerous place for anybody, especially someone as vulnerable as an unparented child.
The guards informed me on a fairly frequent basis it is necessary for them to shoot someone for the protection of another individual or their own wellbeing.

The smell of rubbish and human waste pervades the air, and fatal diseases are easily contracted through infection. Travelling with Tom and Beatrice and armed guards, we spent a lot time with the local vulnerable children, many who were orphaned.

Tom and Beatrice do a fantastic job in helping these children receive love and education. Facilitating sponsorship programmes, they are seeing the future of Kenya transformed one child at a time.

Kenyan Orphans Have Their First Safari

As well as spending time with the children in the slums, we were able to be with the orphans in the children’s village. Thanks to donations Tom and Beatrice received, as well as those given to some of the team, we were able to take the children on a life changing experience: their first safari.

It was a beautiful thing how seeing a giraffe or a wilder beast could light up their eyes and bring them away from suffering or pain to a happier place.

These children weekly receive great teaching through Sunday school at the church ‘Saviour King’. One of the team’s favourite experiences was learning the african worship dance moves by the children who lead from the front. After a few weeks we had almost mastered them all!

Finally I had the privilege of sharing my testimony at a local secondary school, incredibly (and as I should have expected- need more faith!) God used it and some chose to follow Jesus that day. How incredible that what can not seem like the best presentation/explanation can be used in such a way; a reminder it is God and not me that does the ‘saving’ anyway.

Israel – The Last Week.

After being in Israel just over a week already God has been opening eyes and bringing the Bible alive. Staying with Messianic Jews, we have learnt a great deal about the customs and cultural backgrounds to many things that happened in scripture. We are amazed to see how often western media builds a very fearful, sometimes biased picture of a war torn, ridiculously dangerous Israel. Where we are staying could not be more peaceful and the people more hospitable, both Arab and Jew.

We have already begun the process of visa application for India and are encouraged as the process is easier apparently coming from Israel. It was in this very place where Jesus said ‘let the children come to me’. I hope I can inspire others to think in this manner and be reminded that children are of great importance to God and should be of great importance to us also.
